Are you REAL ID Ready?

As of May 7, 2025, the REAL ID Act will be enforced for all domestic air travel within the United States. This means that every traveler aged 18 or older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another TSA-approved form of identification to pass through security at U.S. airports.

✅ What Is a REAL ID?

A REAL ID is a state-issued driver’s license or identification card that meets federal security standards. It usually has a star in the upper portion of the card. If your current ID doesn’t have this, it may not be compliant.

🧳 What You Need to Know:

  • Travel Date After May 7, 2025? Adults aged 18 and older will need a REAL ID, passport, or other acceptable ID to board domestic flights.

  • Not Sure If Your ID Qualifies? Check with your state’s DMV or look for a star in the upper right-hand corner of your ID.

  • Need to Upgrade? Visit your local DMV as soon as possible. You'll typically need:

    • Proof of identity (e.g., birth certificate or passport)

    • Social Security number

    • Two proofs of state residency (e.g., utility bill, bank statement)

📝 TSA-Approved Alternative IDs Include:

  • U.S. passport or passport card

  • DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, etc.)

  • U.S. military ID

  • Permanent resident card

I recommend double-checking your identification well in advance of your departure date to avoid any last-minute surprises at the airport.
